Get out! Even when the weather tempts you to stay in

by melynda Email

Yesterday morning--and for the past few days--was raining. After a couple weeks of sunshine and warm temps, the return to winter is a little tough to swallow.

There's been a lot of complaining on some of the social networking sites I lurk around: Facebook, Twitter, ...I guess that's all. Complaints about snow and rain in June.

I was about to go down that road too, until I thought, "This is Montana, people!". Of course it's snowing in June. It always snows in June. Then I decided to embrace it.

Follow up:

It's a little hard to tell, but the mountain behind the trees is draped in snow-covered conifers.

After watching the rain yesterday morning, and waiting for 9 month-old-Finn to wake from his AM nap, we decided to hit the trail. 2-year-old Anders looks for any excuse to wear his rain boots and picnic, so this was right up his alley.

It was snowing lightly when we pulled up to the Pine Creek trailhead. All the spring growth was verdant green and topped with a shock of white snow. The scene was so alive. The air was clean and clear and alert. This kids were psyched to be outside and so were my husband and I.

We had a great time, snacked at a roaring waterfall and there was no one else on the trail. The dogs went nuts running around. The kids were warm in their layers and rain gear. A perfect hike, in my opinion. And to think I was tempted not to go because it was wet out!

The moral of this story:

:.Go outside regardless of the weather. Go outside to experience every weather.

:.The "worse" the weather, the fewer the people.

:.Wear the right clothes and you can be comfortable just about any where, any time.

:.Even places you've been many times before take on a different feeling when you experience them in different weather.

:.Get out!

Although it doesn't rain here nearly as much as Vancouver, we just got back from camping in the rain and now I am sitting here watching it continue to rain. My garden sure loves it!
