More trail games for kids

We are back from Glacier, the camping gear is cleaned and put away, laundry is washed and in closets, most of the dirt has been removed from under the boys' nails...so, I'm ready to go camping again!

We took daily short hikes through amazing mountains, wildflowers, lakes and streams. Even though our walks were short, our three-and-half-year-old, Anders, gets heavy fast in the backpack. I found myself creating new games--and searching my brain for old games--to keep him walking on the trail.

Trip report: West Boulder River trail

It's been pretty rainy and cool around here. Typical for June, but still hard to swallow when you are longing for summer...

Memorial Day, however, was pretty nice weather-wise. I wouldn't say it was summery (because it wasn't), but it wasn't raining. We took a hike up the West Boulder River to celebrate the non-rain.

Berry picking

As summer winds down bears get hyperphagic (period of excessive eating and drinking to fatten for hibernation), squirrels store nuts and nature prepares for fall and winter. One of the sure signs of the end of summer in our parts is the ripening of berries.

There are two ways to pick berries (that I can think of as I write this way past my bedtime): visit a "you pick" farm or head to the woods. We did both this weekend.
